Today, we sift through the powers and abilities of two titanic characters from the animated world: Goku from Dragon Ball and Saitama from One Punch Man. All right, let’s get started with this match between Goku and Saitama which will be played in five rounds: strength and stamina, intelligence and ingenuity, allies, weapons and powers as well as determination and willingness.
First round : strenght and stamina
1) Goku
In terms of pure force, Goku and Saitama’s levels are so overwhelming that the two characters can claim the place of number one. They both had rather humble beginnings and greatly increased their strength through an intensive and applied training.
For decades, no one seems to have come close to the Saiyan in the DBZ universe. He surpasses the rest of the characters, including monsters capable of destroying entire planets in a blink. When he crosses an opponent, he pushes his limits to eliminate him, even returning to life to fight a worthy oppenent (as in the fight against Majin Buu). With the release of Dragon Ball Super and the new movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku’s power has futher increased, to such a point that it’s difficult to imagine that anyone could defeat him.

2) Saitama
But recently, a successful anime (named One Punch Man) has entered the competition with a powerful character. As the title of the anime indicates, Saitama can neutralize any opponent with a simple punch. It’s the character’s principle: so cheated that he became totally jaded. To this day, no one has managed to survive his iconic red gloves, not even the leader of the Space Raiders “Dark Mater”, the mighty Boros.
Moreover, his inability to fly (unlike Sangoku) is somewhat compensated by his immeasurable force allowing him to jump very high and very far. Amoung his exploits : jump from the surface of the moon to come back on earth to face Lord Boros, spray an asteroid and destroy an entire mountain with the air pressure generated by a single punch. Moreover, whatever the challenger is, the apprentice Hero never seems to suffer any damage. It’s important to notice that Saitama has never use his full strenght yet.
3) Verdict
We’re gonna stay impartial. In terms of pure force and for all these reasons, Saitama deserves this first point (he’s far from having revealed all he’s capable of).
Goku 0 – Saitama 1!
Round two: intelligence and ingenuity
1) Goku
One wonders if the stereotype of Shonen’s dazed Hero isn’t based on Goku. But how to blame him, since he fell on his head being small and all the malice inherent to the Saiyan was removed from his consciousness to leave only a pure and benevolent heart. Let’s be honest: Goku is far from being smart… and it’s not going to get better with DBS. Not to mention that his negligence and the too great confidence in his strength have sometimes cost him a lot. But, well, that’s what makes his charm!

2) Saitama
That said, Saitama is far from worthy of a Nobel Prize. Clumsy, distracted, he doesn’t really calculate his actions… Fortunately, Genos is there to change the game. Despite its flaws, the Class B Hero is nevertheless much smarter than the famous Saiyan.
3) Verdict
Here no possible doubt, Saitama is definitely smarter than Kakarot.
Goku 0 – Saitama 2!
Third round: the allies
1) Saitama
In animes, the “Power of Friendship” occupies a very important place, especially in the Shonen. But between Goku of DBZ and Saitama of OPM, who is surrounded by the most loyal and powerful allies?
A little against his will, Saitama is officially recognized by the Heroes’ Association (although he’s still relatively unknown). This title means that many other heroes (in particular, of rank S) such as Genos ” Cyborg Demon “, Bang “Silver Croc” and Tatsumaki “Tragic Tornado” are, in theory, his allies. Not to be mention King “The strongest man in the world” ! But none of them seems to reach Saitama’s level. To tell the truth, he’s the only truly powerful character in the show (for now). Consequently, they would be more of a handicap to Saitama than an indispensable aid if they fought together.

2) Goku
For its part, Goku is surrounded by Z Fighters and allies with a titanic power. This team is made up of the greatest fighters in the universe, some of whom have surpassed Goku! Among them, we find Vegeta, Yamcha (lol), Majin Boo, Gohan, C-17, C-18, Beerus, etc. In addition, all these characters fight very well as a team and they have shown this on numerous occasions.

3) Verdict
If these two teams clashed, one would not doubt for a second that it’s the incredible Dragon Team that would win hands down.
Goku 1 – Saitama 2!
Round Four: Weapons and Powers
1) Goku
Let’s skip the magic cloud (and the magic stick) that are obsolete for a long time. When we talk about Goku’s arsenal, we have to focus on the incredible attacks of vital energy that it produces. Between his Kamehameha («Tortoise-destroying wave»), Genkidama or his Dragon Fist, Goku proves its energy rays are overpowering. He’s also capable to teleport instantly!
In addition to all these attacks, Goku also possesses one of the most impressive powers: the Super Saiyan. This power allows the hero to increase his Ki in incredible ways. This power up gives a whole new strenght to Son Goku, whose limits are more or less non-existent in Super Saiyan Blue or Super Saiyan God and even more with Ultra instinct.
2) Saitama
On the other side, Saitama’s powers are pretty basic. He possesses techniques called “Consecutives Normal Punches” and “Serious Punch” that remain devastating despite names which aren’t frankly intimidating. He also has extraordinary speed, strength and resistance.

3) Verdict
This last precision suffices to distinguish our two valiant fighters.
Goku 2 – Saitama 2!
Round five: determination and will
1) Saitama
In a serious fight, it’s always better to be able to count on your will of steel. This’s where the characters Goku and Saitama are very different. Before reaching the height of his power and tragically losing all his hair, Saitama had all the will of a «real» hero.
But in realizing that no one could compete with his strength, Saitama became, unfortunately for him, very passive. Saitama gives the impression that he doesn’t like fighting so much, he even shows himself soft sometimes. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him give up a fight due to a lack of will.

2) Goku
On this point, Goku is diametrically opposed to Saitama. He only gives up a fight if he’s absolutely certain his son can handle it easily. Besides, the Saiyans live mostly for fighting, and Goku follows religiously this code! Rare are the characters who can boast of having died in the fight and then coming back to life to save the world
3) Verdict
It’s therefore reasonable to think Goku won’t never let go of a fight before coming out victorious.
Goku 3 – Saitama 2!
Goku vs Saitama: Goku wins!
The victory thus goes to the powerful Saiyan Goku, definitely stronger than Saitama. His innumerable abilities and the steady progression of his power are too impressive to be ignored. It’s true that we are eager to discover how Saitama will evolve in the future, but we are betting on Goku… for the moment!
Another fight worth thinking about would be Goku vs Superman!
