Geek culture is not only about video games, and fortunately! It is much wider and obviously concerns the cinema. Among the most geeky movies in the world we can mention: Star Wars, Back to the Future, Gremlins, Alien, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, E.T, Pulp Fiction or even Batman. Of course this list is not exhaustive and each Geek will add his own movies. Anyway, movies inspire creation and graphic designers have specially created a category of movie / cinema t-shirts and hoodies. From cult movies like Die Hard, Pulp Fiction or The Big Lebowski, Sheepbay has always tried to delight you with movie sweatshirts and t-shirts, whether for men, women, and even budding cinephiles! While there is so much content to choose from these days that you don’t know where to turn, it wasn’t always like this! It wasn’t until the 1970s that two American heavyweights brought an entire industry in their wake. Star Wars, which opened a new era in the science fiction/space opera genre, but also new perspectives in terms of special effects.

Then Superman, which gave a new dimension to superhero films, which were to become a major genre in the following decades. Already, at this time, we began to see enthusiasts wearing film and series tee shirts, very graphic clothes, or clothes full of humor.

The 80’s were going to push the nail in, with a wave of movies considered as cult by the geeks: Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Tron, Alien, Terminator, E.T, Gremlins, Goonies… A new public appears, fan of video games, technology, comics. This public of course loves to show its passion by collecting sweatshirts and t-shirts for films and movies. During this same decade, they discover the incredible mangas and animes coming from Japan, such as Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, and other Captain Tsubasa.

They will be followed by Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop… It would be difficult to quote them all as they are so numerous. Japanese animation is then sweeping the world, and is accompanied by exceptional films such as Akira, then a little later Ghost in the Shell. The 90’s were another blessed decade, which saw the birth of phenomenal films such as Jurassic Park, Matrix, Pulp Fiction, The 5th Element. At Sheepbay, we are particularly fond of this period, which gave us a lot of inspiration to propose you stylish and humorous movie sweatshirts and t-shirts. While Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films are making a name for themselves in the West, such as My Neighbor Totoro or Princess Mononoke, Walt Disney’s films are dominating the world box office with Aladdin or The Lion King. So many cult feature films that will be adapted or parodied by us in the form of ultra-stylish movie t-shirts!

Without knowing it, we are living the last hours of traditional animation, and the big special effects films are only a preview of what will be the digital revolution and the computer generated images of the 21st century! During the 2000s, huge licenses will in turn unleash the passions of geeks.

The Lord of the Rings is the most famous movie of the 21st century, with three cult movies that are still remembered, and that have of course been adapted on Sheepbay in the form of splendid men’s movie t-shirts, and of course women’s movie t-shirts. Harry Potter adopts the same routine of one film per year, and becomes a worldwide phenomenon among children and adults. Then, the superhero movies will take over, with Spider-Man first, then Iron Man which launches the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We are far from suspecting that Marvel is going to make one cult movie after another! Superheroes that we are fans of, and that we have of course represented many times on our movie tee shirts! Of course, we don’t forget franchises like Mission Impossible or James Bond, which continues to be a classic; a genre that will inspire some parodic jewels like OSS 117, which we loved to adapt in Sheepbay tee shirt! And during this century full of promises, the counters will continue to go crazy, and the records will fall. While Titanic was thought to be indestructible, Avatar overturned it and became the most bankable film of all time.

Putting an end to traditional animation, Disney now relies on Pixar, which, through incredible CGI films, launches a real new wave. At the same time, series are exploding. Once considered low-end, and the poor cousins of cinema, they see their legitimacy rise. From X Files in the 90’s to Lost in the 2000’s, to Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones in the 2010’s, the public is in for a treat.

In the 2010s, the trend is confirmed thanks to Netflix and streaming platforms. Note that some French productions are gaining a good reputation, such as the very funny and offbeat OSS 117, and timeless classics such as The City of Fear or The American Class: The Great Diversion. Insatiable, Disney has also launched Star Wars to relaunch the saga, and in turn, a streaming channel to offer all geeks fabulous new series such as The Mandalorian! Countless franchises and heroes that have made the history of the geekosphere, and that have always provided Sheepbay with a huge inspiration to offer you the funniest, most stylish and creative movie t-shirts!
